Medical Waste: Am I Regulated?

Medical waste is defined as any one of the following:

  • animal waste from animals intentionally exposed to pathogens
  • bulk human blood and blood products
  • pathological waste
  • microbiological waste
  • sharps

Exceptions: If an item is from a household or other place of lodging, such as a motel or hotel, it is not considered to be medical waste.

If you generate any of these wastes, you could be regulated.

If you transport any of these wastes, you could be regulated.

If you treat any of these wastes, you could be regulated.
