Surface Water Quality: Data and Maps

Use this page to access data, maps, and map-based viewers having to do with surface water quality. Also available are details on TCEQ monitoring stations, parameters, and data management, plus data on water quality collected by other agencies.

  • Managing Surface Water Quality Data
Guidance, forms, and contact information for the Water Data Management and Analysis Team. For all who submit data to the TCEQ’s TRACS database.

  • Texas Water Quality Inventory and 303(d) List
TCEQ report to EPA. Often called the 305(b) report, the inventory enables evaluation of water quality in Texas. Water bodies identified as impaired are placed on the 303(d) list of impaired water bodies.

  • Texas Surface Water Quality: Data and Map Resources
Download raw data on water quality (in text format) and information on monitoring stations. Search for monitoring-parameter codes by code or by description. Note: Using these files requires a certain knowledge of the file structures and protocols of the state’s surface water quality monitoring program.

  • Texas Surface Water Quality Viewer
Look up uses, standards, and information on water-quality assessment for bodies of surface water in Texas. Search using a Texas map, by the name of a body of water, or by its segment number.

  • Surface Water Quality Monitoring Web Reporting
This tool will allow you to select TCEQ monitoring stations to view and optionally download sample data. This data comes from TCEQ's Surface Water Quality Monitoring Information System (SWQMIS).

  • Hydrography Maps and Data
Texas stream segments, 303(d)-listed waters for 2000, and river basins, including GIS data.

    • Atlas of Texas Surface Waters
The Atlas depicts the state’s surface waters according to the TCEQ’s system for classifying river basins and water body segments, including lakes, bays, ponds, reservoirs, streams, rivers, estuaries and wetlands. Order printed copies by phone, fax, or mail. Be sure to reference publication number GI-316.

  • Real-Time Data
Data associated with monitoring stations collecting data daily, at regular intervals.

    • Continuous Water Quality Monitoring Stations and Data
Information from stations continuously monitoring water quality, by river basin

    • Water-Parameter Averages (Data by day by parameter)
Hourly averages are calculated from data collected every 15 minutes.

    • Water Data
Retrieve data for specific monitoring stations by location.

      • Daily: Hourly averages of all water-quality parameters by station.

      • Monthly: A summary of hourly averages by parameter.

      • Yearly: A summary of hourly averages by parameter.

    • Water Monitoring Real-Time Site Information (table)
See site photos, maps, parameters monitored, current measurements, latitude and longitude, and elevation. The user may sort by Continuous Ambient Monitoring Station (CAMS) number, city, river basin, elevation, or responsible entity.
