This page provides access to two sources of pollutant and
weather data. The first source, the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and local monitoring networks,
provides hourly pollutant and weather data from 1972 to 2006.
The second source, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), provides data summaries and hourly data collected since 1982
on numerous pollutants and meteorological parameters in Texas and
other states.

Tips on Data Format and Retrieval
To maximize the usefulness of this data for scientific and
engineering analyses, please read the Monitoring
Operations Texas
Historical Environmental
Records (
MOTHER) User's Guide. The Site Information File
(
siteinfo) is also available for your convenience.
All sites are identified by an AIRS number.
Pollutant and collocated meteorological monitoring sites also are
identified by the site name, county and Consolidated Metropolitan
Statistical Area.
See the TCEQ's Internet
Help page for information about decompressing data files.

The Monitoring Operations Division at the TCEQ collects a wide
variety of air pollution and meteorological data using
near-real-time continuous instruments, "semi-continuous
instruments", and non-continuous samplers. Continuous instruments
capture data at continuous five-minute resolution, and observations
are "rolled up" to one-hour resolution for regulatory use.
Semi-continuous instruments collect samples over same period -
e.g., 40 minutes - then analyze the sample over a few minutes time
to produce a value time-tagged to the start of the hour and treated
as being representative of the entire 60 minute period.
Non-continuous data are collected by allowing fine particulate
matter to collect on filters over 24-hours, or by slowing drawing
air into stainless-steel canisters over one, three, or 24-hours, or
by slowing drawing air through a porous membrane that entrains
pollutant compounds. Non-continuous samples are then analyzed in a
laboratory and the data are available days to months later.
Data from the EPA AIRS
By selecting the particular pollutant, year, and state or other
location you are interested in, you can query the AIRS
pollutant database
to generate the Annual Report
Summary page. This page lists peak and average measurements in
table format. Each monitor is identified by a number, and more than
one row of information may be given for each monitor. If there are
multiple entries for the same monitor, each provides measurement
data at different intervals (1-hour, 8-hour, 24-hour, etc.). Data
collected by quality assurance monitors is, at times, also
listed.
The years listed on the Annual Report Summary page are hot links
to the Hourly Raw Data page, from which you can retrieve data
collected on one day or a range of days up to one month. You can
download the data tables generated in a text file. Be sure to
follow the "reload" instructions if you are doing multiple queries.
Raw data are only available for the most recent five years. Annual
summaries are available back to 1982.
