Discussion

Thursday 7/24/08
Moderate to strong winds and low background levels should help to keep air quality in the "Good" range over most of the state. Winds may be light enough for ozone to reach "Moderate" or possibly higher levels in the El Paso area. Satellite imagery this morning shows a large and intense Saharan dust cloud extending from the central Gulf of Mexico southeastward into the central Caribbean Sea. This dust cloud is moving rapidly northwest and should reach the Texas coast Friday morning and spread over most of the state on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday 7/25/08
Saharan dust with "Moderate" or possibly higher fine particulate levels should reach South and Southeast Texas in the morning and should move into Central Texas in the afternoon and evening. Elsewhere in the state, moderate winds and lower background levels should help to keep air quality in the "Good" range.

Saturday 7/26/08
Saharan dust with "Moderate" or possibly higher fine particulate levels should spread across most of the state by the afternoon and evening.

Sunday 7/27/08
Saharan dust with "Moderate" or possibly higher fine particulate levels should continue across most of the state. Dust levels may begin to diminish in South Texas in the afternoon and evening.
