The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality today approved
penalties totaling $768,133 against 71 regulated entities for
violations of state environmental regulations.
Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement
categories: 19 air quality, one Edwards Aquifer, one industrial
hazardous wastes, three industrial waste discharge, four
multi-media, 12 municipal waste discharge, six petroleum storage
tank, ten public water system, one wastewater certification, five
water quality and one water right. There were three field
citations. In addition, default orders were issued for the
following categories: two municipal solid waste, one petroleum
storage tank, and one public water system. Penalties were also
assessed in a water quality action following hearings at the State
Office of Administrative Hearings.
Included in the total were fines against Waste Control
Specialists, LLC in Andrews County of $151,200 for two multi-media
violations, documented in routine investigations in 2005 and 2006.
Of the total fine, $65,970 will be applied to a Supplemental
Environmental Project used to provide first-time water and sewage
service to low-income residents in Andrews County.
The TCEQ's next agenda meeting is scheduled for Sept. 24. Agenda
