Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) was established in 1976. It gave the EPA authority to regulate hazardous waste from generation to disposal. Included in this are transportation, treatment, storage, and ultimate disposal. In 1984, amendments to RCRA known as the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments (HSWA) were implemented. These RCRA amendments required phasing out land disposal of hazardous waste.
