These Texas Environmental
Excellence Awards (TEEA)
celebrate the efforts of citizens,
communities, businesses, and organizations to preserve and protect
the Texas environment. The public may nominate an individual,
community, company, or organization for an award. They can also
nominate themselves.
Winners of the Texas Environmental Excellence Awards include an
impressive group of young leaders. Examples of past winners in the
Youth or Education categories include:
- two teenage brothers who have dedicated their lives to voicing
the plight of injured and endangered animals;
- a high school botanical garden that produces food for an area
food bank; and
- an after-school club that focuses on protecting the Gulf of
Mexico and bridges the students' language barriers.
And that’s not all. Other winners include:
- a coordinated effort involving 75 partners who restored more
than 10,000 acres of wetlands on the southern coastline in Cameron
County, and
- an initiative in the Rio Grande Basin that has saved an
estimated 4 million acre-feet of water in an area where water
demand is rapidly growing.

based on a set of award criteria. The committee is composed of
leaders in public and private industry with expertise in
environmental policy and practices.
