Texas State University-TCEQ Internship Program
Get paid experience in an environmental profession while you're
still in school!
Texas State University-San Marcos, in partnership with the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), provides current
students the opportunity to work in the environmental field. The
internship program is open to undergraduate and graduate students
enrolled in any Texas university. The goal of the program is to
involve students in environmental issues and policies and to
provide training for future careers as environmental
professionals.
We have current internship positions related to the following
academic fields of study:
- Geography
- Resource & Environmental Studies
- Environmental Science
- Natural Resource Management
- Urban & Regional Planning
- Public Administration
- Political Science
- Aquatic Biology
- Aquatic Resources
- Biology
- Geographic Information Systems
- Computer Information Systems
- Computer Science
All eligible candidates MUST be enrolled full time (12 hours
undergraduate or 9 hours graduate) for the current semester in a
Texas university. All candidates applying for a summer position
must be enrolled or planning to enroll full time in the following
Fall semester. Students are expected to work between 20 and 25
hours per week during Fall & Spring semesters and potentially
up to 40 hours per week during the summer (May - August), subject
to Texas State University-San Marcos Student Employee Policies and
Procedures and budgeted hours for projects.
All internships are located at either the TCEQ Headquarters in
Austin, Texas or on the campus of Texas State University-San
Marcos. The TCEQ hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
The internships are generally administered from
semester-to-semester and may run longer. There is no specific
deadline for submitting application materials as we continuously
collect résumés throughout the year. Interviews are
conducted by Texas State University staff in San Marcos, TX, and
selections will be based on an applicant’s academic major,
environmental-related interest, life/work experiences, and
available time.
All program applicants are required to submit:
- Current Résumé
- Cover Letter of Intent/Interest
- Unofficial Copy of Transcript
All submitted documents must be in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF
format. Transcripts may be unofficial, i.e. copied from an online
student access database. Letters of interest/intent must include
time availability and expected graduation date.
Students interested in participating should submit their
résumé and supporting documents by email.
Current interns are not limited to working for one semester and
may continue working for multiple semesters, if funding is
available and mentor evaluations are positive.

The TCEQ Internship Program is administered by Texas State
